TLC-USA | Mission of TLC Ministries

TLC-USA supports the work of The Love of Christ Ministries, Inc., an orphanage located outside of Johannesburg, South Africa. The Love of Christ Ministries was established by Thea Jarvis and her family in 1991 as a ministry for the abandoned and newborn babies of South Africa.

The Jarvis family runs the Love of Christ Ministries, located on a farm in Eikenhof, outside of Johannesburg.

In 1993, Thea brought two abandoned babies into her home,
Five babies followed in the intervening three years,
Since then the Jarvis family has adopted 20 children in addition to their six biological children
They have up to 30 infants and toddlers in care at any one time
As of today, TLC has helped place approximately 480 children in loving adoptive families both in South Africa and around the world.

TLC-USA was created by adoptive US parents of children who were born in South Africa and raised for their first months of life in the loving embrace of the Jarvis family at The Love of Christ Ministries. The work of TLC-USA is to inform others about the orphan crisis in Southern Africa and inspire them to help in the struggle to care for these vulnerable, desperate children. By contributing money, volunteering, or becoming an adoptive parent, we want everyone to know that their efforts make a world of difference in the lives of these helpless infants.

Like so many of us who adopt, I knew that my family was not yet complete. I knew in my heart that my seven year old daughter, Micaiah, was not to be my only child. Because of my interest in AIDS and the multitudes of children who were being orphaned due to this pandemic, I decided to investigate adopting from Southern Africa. After several months and many extensive searches, I happened upon the Love of Christ Ministries website. I was completely won over by the stories I read there. At this point I was determined that if it was at all possible, I wanted to adopt from TLC. I found an agency in the US that worked exclusively with TLC and became their very first clients!

After six short months filled with paperwork and official business, we received "THE" phone call. Our agency social worker said that TLC had a year old baby boy waiting for us. Within hours, TLC emailed us photos of our little guy who they had named "Leo". He was mine from that moment on! Within two weeks we were at the TLC farm, holding our great big little guy in our arms! (You'll see what I mean by "great big" after you see his photo!)
